German-based Arca has delivered an order for control valves to a new methanol producing plant in Oman. The order was for 100 valves of the Ecotrol series with nominal sizes DN25 to DN400 and pressure classes ANSI 150, 300, 600 and 900. The designs are required to withstand operating conditions which include resistance to sandstorms and the influence of salty air. No matter how small a gap at the control valves positioned (explosion-proof types have been used) it has to be absolutely tight against dust. Even for transport this had to be guaranteed.
Methanol is a basic chemical and in this plant it will be produced by synthesis of natural gas. In the future, it could become an important biofuel, and, because of its simple chemical structure, gain in importance as a hydrogen supplier in future fuel cell technology.
In this way, Arca’s control valves are contributing to the protection of the energy supply and of society. It says the Ecotrol valves that have been implemented are, for the time being, the best available technology for such challenging industrial control tasks.
