Sperosens’ SL2010 solution is a wide area distributed network aimed at monitoring and controlling remote devices in harsh environments. It was developed to assist clients improve underground data communication and is mostly utilised as a fire detection system. The network is based on LonWorks technology and is implemented as a free topology custom configurable and expandable solution based on specific client requirements. The SL2010 software suite is built on .NET, SQL and .ASP technology and allows the system to capture, store and display data, even by remote Web access. Sperosens now offers the SL2010 Solution as a Service (SAAS), whereby acquisition, installation and maintenance is available as a total package.
Sentry – new generation SL2010 system tools
Sentry is an easy-to-use Windows GUI (graphical user interface) application module in the SL2010 software suite. It complements the SL2010 system primarily by providing visual feedback and notification of the status of the tags configured in the system.
Sentry’s main function is to alert users of any active alarms by constantly monitoring all the system tags and notifying as soon as an alarm is detected. It was designed for use over distributed computer networks where the various SL2010 software modules (ie, SQL Server database and Web Services) may reside on many computers in different locations and on different types of networks.
The system is designed to keep control room operators informed about the status of the SL2010 installation. When alarms are detected, users are notified and the system allows alarms to be acknowledged. Sentry offers many ways of interacting with the data that is stored in the system by the various SL2010 software suite modules. Tag lists and active alarm lists are displayed in tabbed browser fashion, where multiple pages can be displayed at once. Although Sentry is part of the SL2010 Software Suite, it is a stand-alone application and is essentially the user’s primary view of the SL2010 system as a whole. Sentry can be used in various situations where fire detection notification is required.
Sentry Scribe: Scribe is a visual editor that allows users to employ graphical images and Adobe Flash applets to display the status of tags (ie, sensors and fans) in the system. Scribe has been designed as a scada-based package that runs on the SL2010 system. It allows users to create programmable objects on graphics pages. This allows effects like rotating fans and blinking LEDs based on the value of a tag in the system to be created.
Core modules: The SL2010 core modules gather data from the network and process it into meaningful information using technologies like SOAP messages and Web Services to populate an SQL Server database. The data can be viewed by several clients (like the Sentry OPIF) and Web access makes the data accessible from anywhere.
The SL2010 Field Network is powered by a 24 VDC power supply designed specifically with the LonWorks power line communication technology in mind. Power and data are distributed on the same 4-core cable, which results in a very robust and easily maintained network.
