The RFID (radio frequency identification) system from ifm electronic is designed for tracking and control throughout the manufacturing process. The system includes a compact read/write module and miniature ID tag that provides reliable data transmission throughout industrial production. The system is designed for ‘closed-loop’ manufacturing applications including pallet tracking, component identification, intelligent part routing, error-proofing and assembly verification.
The read/write module combines three components in one, a control interface, reader and miniature antenna. The read/write module exchanges data with the re-usable ID tag up to a maximum distance of 20 mm and stores transmission errors that can be retrieved later for a targeted fault analysis. The tag can be mounted to pallets and workpiece carriers either inside a miniature tag fixture, or by mounting directly with an M5 screw.
The system generates a 125 kHz electromagnetic field for reading and writing data. The electromagnetic field emitted by the antenna induces voltage in the passive ID tag that activates it to return its code. The read/write module processes the code and sends the transmission to the AS-interface networking system.
Electrical connection is made to the AS-i network via an M12 connector, up to 31 modules can be connected, to read the tag’s 15-bit data reliably at transport speeds of up to 0,5 m/s. The system features is easy to configure and allows direct access to data without the need for complicated software.
