The Ex i signal isolator family from Phoenix Contact has been expanded by the two-channel MACX MCR-EX-2NAM-R-UP(-SP). The wide-range power supply from 24-230 VAC/DC is a new feature of the device that allows it to be used worldwide in supply networks without requiring any additional power supply.
The device is designed for the intrinsically safe operation of proximity sensors installed in hazardous zones according to EN 60947-5-6 and for floating contacts and contacts equipped with resistors. The input circuits can be monitored for cable faults such as broken cable and short-circuit. A relay with changeover contact is provided as signal output for each channel.
The innovative circuit design ensures precise response characteristics with low associated power loss. The terminal blocks – available in screw or PIT quick connection system versions – are pluggable and coded, thus making installation easy and convenient. The devices are certified corresponding to ATEX and IECEx standards for installation in hazardous zone 2 and for Ex-i circuits up to hazardous zones 0 (gas) and 20 (dust). Since they have been SIL-certified according to IEC 61508, they can be used in safety-relevant applications up to SIL2.
