Complete tank management solutions for oil and chemical tankers.

Shipping companies, shipyards, crews as well as ship outfitters have to deal with ship technology and tank management on a daily basis. Foreground issues here are, on the one hand, increasing safety for crew, ship and cargo, and on the other, optimising profitability. Under these aspects, the German family businesses Pleiger Maschinenbau and Vega Grieshaber have bundled their know-how to provide a single source complete tank management system – made in Germany – for oil and chemical tankers.

Pleiger Maschinenbau, as part of the Pleiger consortium, is an innovation leader in the area of automation, as well as design and manufacture of complete electronic and hydraulic systems for remote valve operation of auxiliary equipment for ballast handling and fuel systems. Technology from Pleiger is installed on over 5000 ships worldwide.

The monitoring of cargo levels, fuels or ballast systems requires safe and reliable measurement technology. For this, Pleiger relies on a leading manufacturer of level, switching and pressure instrumentation, Vega Grieshaber for sensors for every job – from cargo tank measurement, to keeping track of fuel supplies, right through to ballast handling. Vega sensors are already in use under the toughest conditions on over 1000 ships.

By integrating Vega measurement technology into its own control systems, Pleiger can offer complete instrumentation in addition to controls and actuators and thus complete tank management solutions for tankers. Andreas Harmes, managing director of Pleiger Maschinenbau, sums up: “Through the cooperation with Vega, we do justice to the growing requirements of the shipbuilding industry worldwide, especially in the area of oil and chemical tankers, and set the course for further cooperation with shipping companies and shipyards.”
