Vibration switch prevents failure

November 2010 Maintenance, Test & Measurement, Calibration

The VK Series vibration switch from ifm electronic continuously monitors the vibration levels of critical plant equipment. The compact switch is permanently mounted on the machine and provides continuous feedback via the 4-20 mA analogue output. By detecting vibration changes as they occur, the VK switch can save equipment from catastrophic failure, reduce secondary damage and eliminate expensive downtime.

The vibration switch eliminates the need for traditional vibration monitoring techniques requiring data collectors and spectrum analysis. It monitors the frequency range from 10-1000 Hz and is adjustable for the maximum allowable vibration, making it easy to implement vibration monitoring without complex equipment.

Setup is quick, using two dials that rotate to adjust the set-point and response delay time. The switch provides an alarm if the set-point is exceeded and visible LEDs provide local indications of power and alarm status.
