Successful seminars on Foundation Fieldbus

September 2010 News

During May, the Foundation Fieldbus(FF) user group arranged three successful training seminars attended by over 200 end-users, consultants and vendors. The lead presentation was done by FF expert, Ian Verhappen, director of Canadian-based consulting firm Industrial Automation Networks. The topic was cost comparisons and advantages of Foundation Fieldbus versus other bus topologies used in the process industry. There was also a presentation by Paul Sikhakane from Tongaat Hulett on the successful implementation of an FF project done at one of its plants in KwaZulu-Natal. Both informative presentations were well received by the delegates.

“This is part our initiative to inform existing and prospective users of FF in industry of the intricacies and long term benefits of this technology,” said chairman of the FF user group in South Africa, Paulo de Sousa Gomes. “FF is a growing market in southern Africa and engineers need to understand how it works and compares to other technologies.

“Following the seminars there was a huge demand for the establishment of an end-user group comprised of individuals in process industries, plus the need for detailed FF training seminars done by local or overseas trainers. The FF user group committee is presently addressing these requests and says the user group is already well established and looks forward to future initiatives like these seminars to promote and grow the technology in southern Africa.”
