SABMiller accredits Siemens

July 2010 News

After an exhaustive process to accredit original equipment suppliers, based on SABMiller’s GLT.CP.015 ‘Standard for the assessment of equipment suppliers quality management system’, Siemens has become the first to be accredited. Maurice Egan, group head of manufacturing in SABMiller’s technical division says that, through the accreditation, both companies are aligned with related policies, procedures and work practices that impact on the quality of people, resources and deliverables.

“The quality management system (QMS) applies to all aspects of our plant operations which include the equipment or systems that Siemens might supply to us, for example, industrial automation, IT solutions and services, energy, power and lighting. These activities will impact on the group’s key performance indicators and, therefore, their optimisation must be achieved in collaboration with Siemens and any other related suppliers,” says Egan. “When we buy plant and equipment, the optimisation of total cost of ownership is key to us and, in achieving this objective, the collaboration with Siemens and, indeed, any other accredited supplier, should benefit SABMiller.”

Olaf Plante, corporate account manager for SABmiller agrees, saying that the accreditation marks a new stage in the relationship, with Siemens’ status advancing from key account seller to that of key account manager. “In most cases, account management is viewed from the perspective of the seller alone. This often means that the seller’s total offering does not entirely match the customer’s strategic needs. Understanding customers is key to providing excellent service.”

According to Siemens it has a long standing relationship with SABMiller with about a 70% share of automation systems, more than 40% of power distribution equipment and about the same percentage of process control equipment in the group’s facilities around the world. Currently the company is working with various breweries to try and reduce water and energy and use to help meet the targets set for 2015 and 2020 respectively.
