Banner Engineering is offering the A-Gage high-resolution Mini-Array, a high density measuring light curtain designed to innovate complex inspection and profiling applications. The high-resolution Mini-Array brings true 2,5 mm resolution to advanced measurement applications including: on-the-fly product sizing (such as the log profiling shown in the picture), object profiling, edge and centre guiding, loop tensioning control, product inspection, hole detection and similar applications.
The system includes an advanced DIN-rail mountable control module, an emitter and receiver, and two cables. The control module can be custom configured for system functions, including eight measurement modes and several scanning modes, using an IBM-compatible computer, running Windows 3.1, 95, NT or 98. Advanced new software, included with the high-resolution Mini-Array, offers continuous on-screen displays of error/diagnostics analysis and sensor alignment.
The system can automatically, or through user specifications, set up any desired blanking configurations, allowing for objects that must be placed within the light screen.
Sensor emitters and receivers are available in array lengths of 160 mm to 1,3 m, in 160 mm increments, plus 1,6 and 1,9 m array models. Each emitter and receiver contains two columns of infrared LEDs, spaced 5 mm apart. Sensor beam spacing and minimum object detection size are both 2,5 mm. The sensors have a wide field-of-view and are easy to align. Sensor response time is dependent on sensor length and scanning mode.
The system has three scanning modes: straight, single edge and double edge. From these methods, the user is able to choose the most effective type of scanning for their application. A straight scan detects the smallest objects, such as a 2,5 mm diameter rod and takes the longest time. A single edge scan is ideal for box height measurement applications. The user-configurable double edge scan is well-suited to box width measurement.
Programmable scan initiation control methods include: gate and serial host command. Continuous allows the system to scan, update the outputs and immediately start a new scan. Gate uses the on/off condition of the controller's optically-isolated gate as a scan initiation signal. Serial host command utilises a host computer or controller to initiate scanning and receive the scan data from the high-resolution Mini-Array controller.
The high-resolution Mini-Array's seven-segment display keeps the user constantly aware of system operating status. And, four LED indicators depict alignment, gate, output and alarm status. The controller's two discrete outputs, separately assigned to the programmed measurement modes, are short-circuit protected and can be either NPN or PNP depending on the controller model.
