It is set to be an action packed year for Siemens South Africa. For a company that prides itself on the sustainability of its business, the celebration of its 150 years in South Africa is a milestone. In line with this, Siemens’ Totally Integrated Automation division will be hosting a series of technical workshops in May: the theme is sustainable green technology.
Des Burrows, manager for training at Siemens (SITRAIN), is project manager for the workshops, which will be taking place in Durban, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town, culminating in a gala event and the Cyber Junkyard judging process in Gauteng. “Essentially these are technical workshops targeting our partners and end users,” explains Burrows. “The workshops have been designed to educate delegates about the products available in the Totally Integrated Automation Range. For example, some of the products featured include automation systems, large drives, motion control, sensors and communication and low voltage switchgear. These products allow for the automation of entire processes, with little human interaction required.”
The workshops, or user forums, take the format of a series of road shows and the 2010 events have been planned a little differently than in the past. “In previous years, we held one central event in Gauteng, and brought in delegates from all over the country to attend. This year, we will be taking the road shows to our customers all over South Africa,” says Burrows. “For the first time, we are adding a touch and feel aspect to the presentations. Customers will be able to work with the products, try them out and ascertain whether a particular product will be suitable for their working environment.”
Highlights of the 2010 events will include an introductory session of the Simatic S7-1200, a new micro automation programmable logic controller (PLC). The events will be hosted by product managers and product promoters from Siemens South Africa, as well as guests from Siemens Germany.
