Streamworks wins 2001 Wonderware X-change competition
May 2001
News
Streamworks, an industrial IT company and a leader in supply chain solutions, was announced the winner of the 2001 Wonderware X-Change Open Competition for the Best Application using a 'Bottoms-up' implementation methodology, in addition to an award for being in the top three SA Wonderware System Integrators.
The winning Streamworks application is one that has recently been commissioned at Kromco, a world-class fruit packing service company situated in the Western Cape. The prize giving took place at a ritzy gala dinner held at Sun City on Tuesday 3 April. A panel that included industry experts, trade editors, and members of Wonderware, LightHammer & Futuristix, judged all entries. Particular items the judges were searching for in the application included graphics, integration with other software, connectivity and enhanced control processes resulting from the implementation of the system.
Streamworks Project Manager Craig Collins says: "We are overjoyed in having won these awards. The Wonderware products in the FactorySuite, along with the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system Protean and Avantis, were the key solution to Kromco's business requirements. In addition, unique operating and project requirements including an exceptionally tight time-scale and budget; more exceptions than rules; and transaction volumes beyond normal project implementations, provided an exciting set of challenges for the Streamworks project team."
Collins continues: "Kromco required a new Enterprise Manufacturing System to provide full traceability from the orchard to the customer. Additional requirements of hazard analysis critical control point (HACCP) monitoring, process controls; warehouse management and a new ERP system all formed the basis of their enterprise manufacturing Intelligence (EMI) needs. Kromco is an organisation that was perfectly geared to a 'Bottoms-up' implementation. This particular installation is a 'Bottoms-up' implementation of the Wonderware product range from the sensor to the financial statements, truly integrated and poised to take Kromco to a new level of thinking and operation in an exciting and challenging industry."
