A new force in automation solutions

May 2001 News

Two sister business units of Protea Technology have been integrated into a new company which will trade as Protea Automation Solutions. The engineering talents and expertise in high-tech Foxboro-related automated systems represented for 54 years by AFH Devers, has been integrated with the considerable product knowledge of process-control hardware and service, represented by Protea Industrial Controls, into a comprehensive new force providing complete sensor-to-boardroom automation solutions to industry.

In creating this new business, it is expected that there will be an improvement in sales, customer focus and service. Eric Fisher will head up the new operation, supported by Keith Guest, for Business Development and Systems, Jerry Smits for National Sales and Distribution, Sharon Banks for Analytical, and Willem Bruwer for Engineering Services and Support.

Gary Johnston, CEO of Protea Technology, the holding company, stated: "The objective for merging two well known brands and divisions into one is to increase the critical mass and yield greater synergy between the two previously standalone businesses".

Managing Director Eric Fisher added: "We have been planning this reconstruction for some time. It is appropriate that we modernise our operating style in line with changes in technology and markets. It is unnecessary to have completely separate divisions to achieve focus. Our new structure allows natural synergy to flow. I have no doubt that customers will experience the benefit from this integrated, focused structure, whether buying a standalone instrument or a fully integrated solution.

"In this highly competitive market, it is not the cheapest product offering but the best solution, combined with long experience, proven service, and quality products that provides the most cost-effective solution for customers. That is what we offer."
