P+F optical data couplers

Wireless communication via light beams.

Fail-safe and rational warehouse logistics are becoming increasingly important as a competitive factor for companies across all industries. On the one hand, material warehouses need to ensure that supplier parts can be quickly delivered to the machines and work places. While on the other, finished products must be stored temporarily in buffer stores prior to delivery, especially in the automotive industry. Optical sensors and communication systems from Pepperl+Fuchs contribute significantly to making the processes in warehouses and factories safer, faster and more cost-effective.

P+F’s new generation of LS611-DA data light barriers set a standard for the optical data transfer of PROFIBUS signals. Previously, it was necessary to use two different devices with different working frequencies for optical PROFIBUS transfer. With the new generation devices, this inconvenience is now a thing of the past. Today, identical devices are able to communicate with each other without additional hardware circuits or parameter assignment, thus making installation and commissioning, storage and service easier. To commission, adjust or service the devices, it is not necessary to open them.

Furthermore, the devices now only have one operating button to select the transfer rate; as an option, this pushbutton can be electrically blocked against malfunction. The tried and tested TVT (telegram verification technology), which is now commonly used for checking the validity of telegrams, was adopted from the predecessor to avert bus crashes due to light beam interruptions.

The LS611-DA-P type optical data couplers transmit information wirelessly via modulated and directional infrared light over distances up to 150 m or with special versions capable of ranges up to 300 m. The P+F Optical Data Coupler is directly connected to PROFIBUS with the connector protected to IP65.
