Extraordinary power control

November 2009 PLCs, DCSs & Controllers

Eurotherm storms the market with EPower controllers.

The EPower controller is the latest product in the Eurotherm range of power controllers, incorporating the newest technologies and innovations to manage processes and reduce energy costs. On every level the range has been designed to bring the flexibility customers need to best meet their power control requirements both now and in the future.

A common driver module is used across the entire range. For OEMs, distributors and end-users this minimises the need for stocking spares while making both set-up and training simple. For maximum versatility, the single driver module supports up to four power modules. The result is the ability to support different load configurations from 100 to 2000 amps.

Efficiency through advanced technologies

EPower controllers provide measurement accuracy, functionality and innovation to deliver extraordinary power control that helps the process, the environment and the budget.

* Measurement accuracy better than 1% for energy saving applications.

* Load management for better distribution of energy and to minimise peak energy usage costs.

* Reduce energy bills and other costs with a selection of advanced firing modes to best suit the load type.

Predictive load management

Users can reduce energy costs across the plant by utilising the Predictive Load Management functionality within the EPower controller. This new feature provides a better distribution of energy across different loads in an installation by managing the priority and, if necessary, load shedding.

The controller prevents overshoot of the nominal power thus keeping the installation within its set electrical limits and preventing increased energy tariffs being imposed by the supplier. Predictive Load Management anticipates energy usage rather than just reacting when the peak has already been exceeded.

Easy configuration cuts costs

EPower has been designed for easy configuration and modification. The front, integral display has a ‘QuickStart’ facility that leads the user through initial set up in a series of simple steps. To further save engineering this QuickStart code can be specified when ordering and the instrument shipped pre-configured.

More advanced configuration can be achieved utilising iTools PC configuration software, which provides the significant assistance of graphical wiring tools and downloadable function blocks to minimise engineering time and cost.

Once an application has been created it can easily be saved and cloned to multiple instruments that need the same or similar configuration, keeping the work safe and saving repeat engineering costs.
