iTEMP TMT162 upgrade

September 2009 Temperature Measurement

Field housing mounted temperature transmitter with Profibus PA protocol from Endress+Hauser.

The importance of Profibus PA as a form of communication in process measurement and control is continuously increasing. The iTEMP TMT162 upgrade to include Profibus PA follows this technological trend that is setting a standard in temperature transmitters.

The iTEMP TMT162 supports, as standard, both default status and diagnosis in accordance with the Profibus PA profile 3.01, as well as being configurable in accordance with the profile amendment 2 (condensed status and diagnostic messages). With the ‘condensed status’ the manufacturer-specific diagnostic events are allocated to the standardised condensed status classifications based on the NAMUR NE107 recommendation.

The proven iTEMP TMT162 with HART and Foundation Fieldbus technology already offers numerous functions and benefits. These include:

* Backlit display for easy readability.

* Dual chamber housing with a separate connection compartment for a fast and simple installation.

* Large gold plated terminals for corrosion free connection.

* Corrosion recognition on the sensor cables on 4-wire RTD connection or thermocouples.

The iTEMP TMT162 is ideal for the critical processes found in the petrochemical or oil and gas industries. The robust and solid field housing is available in aluminium or stainless steel versions. Both housing types are particularly suitable for rough environmental conditions as they protect the electronics from environmental influences.

In addition to the robust housing the TMT162 with its two sensor inputs also offers a variety of other functions. These possibilities provide a high degree of safety, redundancy and risk minimisation.

The accuracy of a thermometer plays an essential role in numerous processes. For the significant improvement of the temperature measurement accuracy sensor-transmitter-matching can be done with the iTEMP TMT162. The customer can enter the specific coefficients from the sensor calibration directly into the Callendar-Van Dusen equation or use the linearisation formula for copper/nickel resistance thermometers in the iTEMP TMT162. By using one of these formulae ensures higher accuracy of the entire measuring loop is achieved.

An extensive range of approvals for hazardous areas is available. The unit can be configured by Endress+Hauser FieldCare or Siemens PDM, guaranteeing straightforward system integration into all common process control systems.
