Next generation Promass flowmeter

July 2009 Flow Measurement & Control

Endress+Hauser has introduced the second generation Promass I Coriolis flowmeter. The introduction of this flowmeter is a milestone in the company’s development of single tube Coriolis meters.

The Promass 80/831 features a straight single tube design which provides the regular Coriolis outputs of mass flow, density and temperature, as well as the option of in-line viscosity measurement.

The Promass is ideally suited to demanding applications where a large measuring range is required, such as in the food industry. The new model offers enhanced stability and performance of mass flow and viscosity measurements under multiphase conditions.

The new meter adopts a ‘fit and forget’ approach and features a patented form of the field proven torsion mode balance (TMB) system that improves the zero point specifications. The TMB system combines the clean-ability and careful fluid handling of single tube systems with the simple installation of a dual tube instrument. The Promass is easy to install and requires no inlet and outlet runs or flow profilers/conditioners. The fully welded design with no moving parts and no internal seals ensures maintenance free operation.

The second generation Promass I features additional improvements, such as dual mode, the method by which the device separates viscosity and mass flow measurement to ensure that mass flow has no effect on viscosity measurements. This feature makes the Promass I the first commercial Coriolis mass flowmeter that uses two simultaneously driven resonance frequencies, resulting in two independent control loops for viscosity and mass flow without cross influence.

The in-line viscosity measurement option offers users the advantage of measuring viscosity directly in the process, yielding a truer reflection of process conditions. It negates the delay of taking samples to a laboratory and ensures and assists in increasing quality, efficiency and optimisation of the process.

The Promass series from Endress+Hauser is an established range offering reliability, robustness and suitability to a variety of industries worldwide. The introduction of the 2nd generation Promass I will further contribute to the continuous successful growth of the Promass product line.
