Vision sensor inspects 6000 parts per minute

Cognex is offering its third generation Checker 3G vision sensor. The device includes built-in lighting, can function over variable working distances – and is capable of inspecting over 6000 parts per minute on a moving production line. Small enough to fit into tight spaces, the same sensor may be used for all manner of product verification tasks, including presence/absence or as a measurement sensor.
The Checker 3G detects a part by recognising features, which is far more reliable than simple use of photoelectric sensors. This intelligent device inspects for features that other sensors cannot, identifying multiple part features simultaneously. The device allows for variable part orientation, as is typical in production line situations – no precise part handling is required to align the parts with the stored image.
Setup is performed using the Sensorview teach pendant, and Cognex’s One-Click Setup feature, makes it possible for jobs to be set up and running in a matter of minutes. A single teach pendant can be used to set up any number of Checker 3G sensors, and can also be left connected for realtime monitoring. Setup may also be performed from a PC or laptop, and job changes can be performed remotely.
Typical applications include:
* Automotive: Checking the presence of welds, nuts, o-rings, springs, fasteners and sealants, the orientation of parts on feeder bowls, the measurement of gaps, hole diameters and springs.
* Food and beverage: Detecting the presence of laser/ink-jet codes, caps, labels and tamper seals, verifying closed bags before sealing, measures product labels, fill level and cap height.
* Consumer products: Checking the presence of nozzles, coupons, safety seals and caps, the orientation of bottles, containers and flip caps, measuring component width, screw length and hole openings.
