Safety milestone for Honeywell
June 2009
News
For the first time at a single project level, Honeywell has achieved over one million man hours without a disabling injury. This was attained at Eskom’s Grootvlei power station over the last three years.
Honeywell has also achieved a 90-95% average rating on its safety audit at Grootvlei and has been recognised as a top performing contractor on the project in terms of safety.
Michael Eksteen, business development leader Eskom said: “Honeywell places great emphasis on safety, whether it be Honeywell staff or our sub-contractors. We expect a team effort in order to ensure records such as the ‘one million hours without a disabling injury being reported’ are obtained.
“We have an intensive ‘near miss’ procedure in place at Grootvlei, where potential injury situations are proactively identified and corrective action is implemented immediately.
“We regularly conduct our own random safety checks on site in compliance with the company’s global philosophy towards safety. We also implement a global safety event tracking site, which feeds incidents directly back to Honeywell’s head office for review.”
Honeywell has between 150 and 200 personnel and sub-contractors on site at Grootvlei.
