Increased performance for PLCs - increased productivity

April 2001 PLCs, DCSs & Controllers

Thanks to the latest enhancements to the range, Schneider can offer a platform that covers the needs of medium and top-of-the-range applications in the manufacturing and batch processing sectors.

Continuing its strategy of offering products that most closely match market needs, as well as being the most innovative, Schneider Electric has added to the Premium range, bringing customers solutions with increased performance and openness.

The new Premium processors have significantly reduced cycle times, even for complex applications, making Premium something of a reference product for performance in industrial control systems, says Schneider. These new characteristics combined with a unique range of special modules and functions, result in increased machine operating rates and ease of use. The high level of both hardware and software integration of application-specific functions (weighing, motion control, process control, counting and safety) has led to major savings in volume and cost, while retaining ease of set-up and operation.

Increased memory capacity and performance enable the PLC to offer more functions in terms of diagnostics, maintenance, quality control and operation tracking. All this information puts the user in control of production tool availability, resulting in increased productivity.

Over the past two years, with its innovative Transparent Factory approach, Schneider Electric has established itself as a leader in the incorporation of web technology into industrial control systems. With its new range of Ethernet TCP-IP intelligent modules, Premium is now taking another step in this direction.

The Ethernet TCP-IP module can handle up to 8 Mb of customised web pages, making Premium the website for the installation. As standard, data is thus directly accessible, at all levels and without any special training, via a web browser. With an auto-dial facility of 10/100 Mbps and high module performance, Premium can satisfy the most stringent requirements of applications sectors, which make extensive use of Ethernet TCP-IP, such as infrastructures (airports, tunnels, etc).

This enhancement to the offer also meets the growing need for control system solutions with increased availability. For redundancy of centralised and distributed architectures, Premium now offers the warm standby solution in its catalogue.

This reliable, durable solution is simple to set up, and offers:

* Partial, mixed and total redundancy of I/O.

* Smooth switching of actuators.

* Advanced diagnostic services for Premium and PL7.

Used in conjunction with the Ethernet module, this solution ensures total transparency for exchanges with supervision systems. 'Black holes' are thus avoided and the installation is always under control.
