BitDefender Security for Mail Servers receives VB Spam Gold Award

May 2009 News

Tested against competitive products, BitDefender Security for Mail Servers comes out on top with the lowest false positive rate.

BitDefender®, an award-winning provider of innovative anti-malware security solutions, announced today BitDefender Security for Mail Servers was awarded a VB Spam Gold award, in Virus Bulletin’s first ‘live’ anti-spam comparative review. Tested on a new SuSE10 Linux installation as an extension to the Postfix Mail Transfer Agent (MTA), the results showed that BitDefender Security for Mail Servers had the lowest false positive rate in comparison to its commercial competitors.

Virus Bulletin’s Anti-Spam Comparative Review put six different anti-spam products through a series of tests, checking both spam catch and false positive rates. Each test set consisted of 1677 ham e-mails and 24 320 spam e-mails. VB Spam Gold awards were presented to products whose spam catch rate was at least 77,02% along with a false positive rate under 5,68. The rates for BitDefender Security for Mail Servers were much higher than the average – as they were 84,20% (SC rate) and 1,49% (FP rate).

Virus Bulletin is recognised as one of the leading specialist publications in the field of viruses and related malware. Virus Bulletin's anti-spam test used a live e-mail stream to expose all products being tested to the same e-mail in realtime. The tests measured a products' spam catch rate and false positive rate with certifications awarded to products that achieved or exceeded predefined benchmarks in both measurements.

“We put BitDefender products through tests, like Virus Bulletin’s, to ensure we are consistently not only keeping up with the competition, but also staying ahead of the pack,” said Bogdan Dumitru, BitDefender’s chief technology officer. “Tests like these keep us on our feet, and allow us to understand what needs to be improved so BitDefender is able to provide customers with the best proactive protection again spam and all other e-threats.”

BitDefender Security for Mail Servers brings together proactive antivirus, antispyware, antispam, antiphishing, content and attachment filtering technologies to secure the mail traffic of companies and service providers.
