Natural gas flow monitoring, metering and control

Thermal mass flowmeters

Thermal mass flowmeters from Sage Metering can be used for monitoring, measuring and controlling the gas mass flow in industrial process. These NIST traceable flowmeters help users to increase productivity, reduce energy costs, and maximise product yields.

The flowmeters are designed for high performance mass flow measurement of flow rate and consumption of gases such as natural gas, air, oxygen, propane and other gases and gas mixes. The instruments are field rangeable and have a convenient user interface.

The Sage mass flowmeter output is virtually independent of even large process temperature variations, and the digital electronics is impervious to external analogue noise. The meters feature a back-lit display that reports mass flow or velocity, totalised mass flow, and temperature. Isolated 4-20 mA outputs for mass flow and/or temperature, relays, and a convenient RS232 and keypad user-interface, give users the flexibility to integrate the functions of flow measurement into their specific applications.

The Sage thermal mass flowmeter can be used for measuring gas flow at point of supply to a facility, at the departmental level and at individual burners.

Installing an in-line or insertion mass flowmeter provides a back-lit readout and 4-20 mA output of instantaneous mass flow rate and automatically tracks the highest and lowest flow rate with a date and time stamp. The instrument totalises continuously (up to 12 digits) and also provides a gas temperature reading. A convenient menu system allows many other features for current status, short term history and configuration.

At facility point of supply

With rising natural gas prices, it is essential for users to determine their hourly and daily consumption by measuring the gas entering into the plant. With the Sage thermal mass flowmeter users can track the gas usage within their facility and gain critical information about natural gas demand.

At departmental level

By sub-metering at each department or building users are able to assess departmental inefficiencies, and assign costs to different operating areas. This becomes a necessary tool for instituting appropriate energy conservation measures.

Combustion control

Monitoring the natural gas (or backup fuel of propane) into a furnace or burner, along with the air or oxygen line, users can optimise their combustion process. Proper control of the air/fuel ratio can improve efficiency, lower fuel consumption, improve product quality and increase product yields.
