Integrated systems solutions for a diverse span of industries

April 2001 News

BEST (Business Execution Solutions & Technology) South Africa, a supplier of integrated and optimised supply chain solutions, has recently secured a contract to evaluate the total systems needs of a major platinum refinery.

This contract builds on the expertise and knowledge that the company has in providing integrated systems solutions and decision support tools to a wide array of industries.

It is becoming increasingly evident that whilst organisations have in the past installed various systems to run their operations on a more efficient day-to-day basis, these systems have not always resulted in an integrated or holistic solution from a corporate perspective. The effect of this is that 'islands' of applications/optimisation have been created and that the management of the corporation is often not in a position to take advantage of the business opportunities that exist in the marketplace.

In the case of this customer, the contract that has been awarded to BEST is to provide a planning tool in the form of a 'road-map' which will allow the organisation to both integrate as well as harmonise its IT infrastructure. It is expected that the outcome of this project will enable the company to better implement the necessary measurements that it needs to run a cost-effective and efficient operation, taking into account the various key performance indicators (KPIs) that have been established by the executive team.

Whilst the implementation of this contract builds on BEST's extensive track record, a significant part of the 'value add' that BEST will provide during the duration of the contract is that BEST will not require a vast investment of time in order to gain an understanding of this environment. Of significance is the fact that BEST have worked and continue to work from plant level right up to the ERP and enterprise level and thus have a thorough understanding of the technologies, and more importantly the business and technical processes.

Companies are continuing to find that the integration of plant information into ERP and executive information systems has often been ignored and that the opportunities that can be obtained in this area are substantial. BEST is confident that this contract will form the basis of what will ultimately become a new and substantial business opportunity. The methodology that will be employed has been well established and many of BEST's current clients are interested in having similar work performed.
