Quickscan beta to provide second opinion on PC security

March 2009 IT in Manufacturing

Offers users a quick and easy check for running threats.

BitDefender, a global provider of award-winning antivirus software and data security solutions, today announced the availability of the beta version of BitDefender QuickScan. BitDefender QuickScan is an advanced online tool used for detecting running malware. It makes use of 'in-the-cloud' scanning to determine if files accessed by running processes are malicious.

The QuickScan online service is intended to provide an alternative to traditional online system scanning solutions, which are heavy on both bandwidth and system resources. BitDefender QuickScan easily and quickly checks the machine, scanning for patterns and virus signatures already known as threats.

"This beta version no longer has the engines downloaded, with any updates in tow, onto the scanned computer. The scanning engines are now left on BitDefender servers, with the local component sending only the relevant bits of suspicious files for analysis. We hope to achieve significant speedups over the traditional solutions," explained Mihai Chiriac, head of BitDefender R&D.

According to innovation product manager Alexandru Balan, “BitDefender plans to integrate the technology behind QuickScan into other products as well, after the beta rids itself of any remaining bugs and proves the value of the technology in a real-world setting. BitDefender is constantly working to improve the technology offered to consumers, ensuring that BitDefender products provide complete protection against the increasing internet threats."

BitDefender QuickScan is available for testing at http://qscan.bitdefender.com.
