New heights for Voith

Voith’s WinDrive has shown its strength in what is believed to be the highest installed wind turbine in the world. Situated 4200 m above sea level, the 2 MW wind turbine delivers power to the Veladero Goldmine in the Andes mountain range in Argentina.

Extreme environmental conditions placed very special demands on the complete drive train in the nacelle, requiring a design that was not based on conventional wind turbine technology. The WinDrive’s robustness and large application range has proved an ideal choice for this high altitude application
