LS Industrial Systems has introduced its new XGR Twin CPU redundancy PLC to the South African market. Claimed by the company to be the fastest PLC of its type the product features two 42 nanosecond, 20 MB memory CPUs, capable of handling up to 131 000 I/O points and operating on a 1 gigabit Ethernet network ring structure. CPU changeover time is 50 ms.

Programming software is provided free-of-charge and utilises the standard IEC 61131-3 languages (Ladder, Structured Text and Sequential Function Chart), providing powerful easy-to-use capabilities.

The PLC utilises the same digital and analog modules as the faster XGi series, with a maximum of 3112 analog channels. The 16 bit resolution with a settling time of 250 microseconds makes it ideal for realtime operational requirements such as weighing or pressure control. It is also capable of handling up to 256 PID loops with auto-tuning.

Additional functionality such as: exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions; hot/cold restart; module skip; module switch-on; error and system logs and fault masking have been included.

All standard communication protocols are catered for, namely: Ethernet; Profibus; Devicenet; Fieldbus; Modbus and the open No-Protocol. Electric or fibre-optic versions are available for expansion racks.
