The new Contactron product family from Phoenix Contact provides three-phase semiconductor reversing contactors as an electronic replacement for mechanical contactor combinations. They combine four functions in one: right-protection, left-protection, motor protection relay, and emergency stop to category 3.
These compact and affordable devices save on space and wiring costs, while also providing a configurable bimetal function with a 9 A rating. A microprocessor-controlled combination of robust relay and non-wearing semiconductor technology enables smooth, low-wear switching. This reduces the load on relay contacts and thereby increases their durability by 10 to 30 times that of purely mechanical standard solutions. Switching, reversal, and protection of motors up to 4 kW is possible.
Variants are also available for switching with 24 V d.c. or 230 V a.c.. The semiconductor reversing contactors are well-suited for use in chemical and petrochemical applications, and the product has an EC type examination certificate in accordance with ATEX.
