POSITAL has extended its range with the introduction of OPTOCODE incorporating an Ethernet/IP interface. The units feature an Ertec200-based platform and reach cycle times of less than 10 ms, providing absolute position values without referencing even after power failure.
Like all OPTOCODE encoders, the EtherNet/IP models use a proven opto-electronic scanning method to record position values. The single-turn sensor provides a resolution of 16 bit per revolution. Additionally, a maximum of 16 384 revolutions (14 bit) can be registered in multiturn mode, thereby covering a measuring range of 30 bit.
The encoders, which have a diameter of only 58 mm, do not require a connection cap. Unlike DeviceNet models, they also do not require terminating resistors or switches for address allocation and Baud rate adjustment. Being shorter than most industrial Ethernet encoders on the market, they can be used in applications with limited installation space. They feature an integrated switch which facilitates wiring and allows users to save on external hardware. As in DeviceNet encoders EDS files ensure easy configuration. Further equipment includes two M12 connections for data transfer, one M12 connection for voltage supply, and six LEDs for bus diagnosis. The IP67 protected devices can be used in rugged industrial environments.
