Paul van As, sales and technical manager at Surgetek, recently celebrated 20 years service with the company. Surgetek is a specialised manufacturer and distributor of a full range of external lightning protection and earthing equipment, internal surge protection equipment, high voltage safety equipment, low voltage surge arresters and earthing and short circuiting protection devices.

Paul has written and published many articles on lightning and over-voltage protection and has held various seminars both locally and internationally. His expertise has been sought by key companies, as well as the insurance industry to investigate lightning damage claims. He also serves on various SANS (SABS) technical committees for surge and lightning protection as well as presenting training for SANS NETFA on surge and lightning protection.
One of the most interesting projects to date that Paul has been involved in was the protection of the new aircraft identification radar installed throughout South Africa. This DEHN protection system has now been implemented worldwide due to its success.
