Tough photo-electric sensors

September 2008 Sensors & Transducers

The universal and easy to mount OG photoelectric sensors from ifm electronic offer reliable sensing in robust applications. Their cylindrical M18 housing consists completely of high-grade stainless steel making them especially suited for applications in the conveyance, packaging and automotive industries.

Included in the range are diffuse reflection sensors with background suppression and sensing ranges from 15 to 300 mm. Adaptation to the application is made by means of a potentiometer or a pushbutton. The retro-reflective sensors with polarisation filter provide ranges between 30 and 5000 mm, while the through-beam sensors have a sensing range from 0 to 25 000 mm.

The sensors operate from 10-36 V d.c. with an IP 67 protection rating in a –25 to 80°C temperature range. The outputs are protected against short circuits and overloads, as well as reverse polarity. A yellow LED indicates the switching status, and the high switching frequency of 1 kHz (2 kHz for the retro-reflective sensor) allows reliable detection of fast processes.

Telco sensors in the pulp and paper industry
Gail Norton Instrumentation Sensors & Transducers
The pulp and paper industry poses a major problem for most photoelectric sensors. The high level of contamination in these dusty, dirty and grimy environments makes it impossible for most competing sensors to operate and sense reliably and efficiently.

Always keeping an eye on the measured values
ifm - South Africa Electrical Power & Protection
Despite growing digitalisation, there are still many situations where analogue measured values such as the level in a tank or the temperature of a climatised room must be directly readable in the control cabinet or at the control desk. The current loop display is designed for precisely this purpose.
