Caesars Gauteng impressed with test equipment

The Slots Department of Caesars Gauteng has been using Fluke instruments for only three months and remarkable results are already evident. The seven units, supplied by Spescom MeasureGraph, are used in Slots Technical, a sub-department responsible for the repair and maintenance of the gaming machines, as well as projects, installations and all other requirements of the department as a whole.

Coordinator Paul Scott says the instruments have improved the diagnostic capabilities and as a result the productivity of Slots Technical. He explains which products were bought and what they are used for. "The Fluke 65 infrared thermometer is used to check temperatures in high heat areas such as the interiors of our video poker machines. This has been identified as a major cause of monitor failure so it is critical to identify excessive heat problems timeously.

"We chose the Fluke 123 Scopemeter for its portability. It is used for fault diagnostics in situ on the gaming floor. The Fluke VR101S voltage event recorder monitors fluctuations in our 220 V supply. Most of the equipment on our gaming floor is supply-sensitive, and although all machines have overvoltage protection built in, sizable fluctuations do affect their operation. The 77III multimeter fulfils a general multimeter role in our day to day maintenance and repairs."

These are not the first Fluke instruments that Scott bought. "I prefer Fluke products as they are the most reliable and rugged on the market. I used Fluke instruments for 14 years in the mining industry as well as in 'soft' applications such as the casino environment, and can safely say they are the best value for money available."

Scott says the Slots Department have used a variety of products since the opening of Caesars Gauteng in December 1998 but has only started using the Fluke 65, the Fluke 123 scopemeter and the Fluke VR101S recently. "These instruments have improved our diagnostic capabilities dramatically and as a result our productivity as well. At present we are not using all the features of the units, which leads me to believe that we can see further improvements in their role in our work." Scott ends with a compliment for Spescom MeasureGraph: "The company is professional, efficient and reliable, and the after sales service is very good."
