Safety camera system

The new V300 WS safety camera system from SICK is space-saving, fast and suitable for hand protection. Reportedly it is the first device of its type to provide Category 3 protection of hazardous points-of-operation in compliance with EN 61496-1 SIL2.
Based on image-processing technology the sensor’s light source and detector are integrated into a single triangular housing designed for corner mounting, the reflector being mounted diametrically opposite. Designed to monitor an area of 1m x 1m, the camera’s 110° field of view detects the entire reflection area and aligns the monitoring field with 20 mm resolution and blind-spot avoidance. The V300 WS responds within 20 ms should anyone reach into the machine while it is running, immediately stopping the process.
In order to ensure maximum safety and availability, the V300 WS permanently monitors the reflector strip for dirt, holes, damaged areas or objects placed over it. When problems are detected they can be pinpointed via four LED indicators each monitoring a different segment within the field of view. If required the reflector strip can be easily replaced and functionality restored using a built-in teach function.
The cameras can also be connected in pairs via a standard synchronisation input to double the size of the protected area, or protect the machine from adjoining sides. Operators are still able to access the machine to insert or remove large work pieces, since no central bracing is required from the corner junctions.
The V300 WS is the ideal solution for the Safety Categories 3/SIL2. If the risk analysis indicates a Category 2 protection requirement the V200 WS offers a
cheaper solution.
