Easy-to-view paper chart recorder with added features

March 2001 Data Acquisition & Telemetry

The Chessel 394 circular recorder from Protea Industrial Controls is a new, multipoint annotating circular chart recorder offering a number of extensions to the 392 model's features. It maintains the 392's easy-to-view arrangement; either model would be a good choice for a variety of applications. Local printing communications and memory storage, together with its ability to be individually configured, makes this recorder quick and easy to set up for many specific applications.

Options include the up to 18 change-over relays for alarm outputs, two PID control loops with single or duplex outputs of either the current or duration adjusting variety. The NEMA 4X (IP65) case option makes the recorder into a fully submersible instrument. A transmitter PSU option supplies power sufficient for up to six current-loop transmitters. A communications option offers Modbus RTU, and the annotation option provides the ability to print the time, date, scales and logs, etc to the chart.

The 394 handles up to six multipoint channels, has an easy-to-read 20-character vacuum fluorescent digital display to complement the high visibility chart. Each channel has four alarms, configuration may be accomplished using the front key panel, or via the configuration port. Other features include powerful maths capability, four totalisers with nine-digit readout and data storage on SRAM PC cards.

The 392 offers everything the 394 has, but in smaller quantities. Both instruments accept numerous thermocouple types, as well as DC voltage and current (with a shunt installed) inputs. The recorders are specified to operate from 0 to 50°C, from 5 to 80% RH (noncondensing).
