All too often an excellent motor protection product is selected for the protection of relatively high kW motors that are subsequently lost due to bearing failure. When not identified in time, the rotor begins chafing on the stator with disastrous consequences and costly results.
The NewElec MA motor protection relays have been equipped with three temperature-sensing circuits to prevent this from happening to the motor. The design of the protection relay allows the user to select one temperature sensing circuit each for the drive end and non-drive end bearings. A small PTC thermistor can then be inserted into the bearing housings and connected to the protection relay to provide temperature feedback.
The MA range is available with a fully comprehensive protection platform that includes optional communications protocols suitable for use with PLCs
As soon as the selected temperature threshold is reached the protection relay will disrupt supply to the motor and provide an indication as to which bearing is affected. In this way planned corrective action may be taken so as to prevent a more serious and costly failure.
The third circuit permits an additional thermistor to be wired in series and embedded in the motor windings.
