Non-existent scada award
May 2008
News
In a recent article in SA Instrumentation & Control (SAI&C), we reported that international research house Frost & Sullivan (F&S) had presented Wonderware with three awards, including an award for Customer Satisfaction Leadership for Price Competitiveness in the SCADA/HMI Segment. However, it has subsequently come to light that the specific award did not exist and was actually presented in error by F&S ... the result of what F&S euphemistically describes as its own 'administrative oversight'.
Wonderware had accepted the award in good faith. Similarly, SAI&C had reported on the award in good faith.
Patrick Cairns of F&S corporate communications elaborated on the error, “Two of these awards were correctly bestowed and are fully supported by our analysis. We employ a thorough methodology in determining our awards recipients, based on extensive interviews with industry participants and customers. We regret that an administrative oversight has compromised this process, as we pride ourselves on the accuracy and integrity of our awards programme. Our Best Practices Awards are internationally recognised as endorsements of industry leadership, and we will maintain this standard in Africa.
“However, the third award titled Customer Satisfaction Leadership for Price Competitiveness in the SCADA/HMI Segment was unfortunately sent in error. No such award was made in this segment. It was an administrative mistake on our part.
Cairns concluded, “We trust this clears up any concerns regarding the presentation of this award and we apologise for the error.”
Should anyone have any further queries or wish to discuss the methodology involved in determining the awards, they are invited to contact Patrick Cairns on [email protected] or +27 (0)18 468 2315.
