The GA range of earth leakage protection relays, from NewElec, reliably disconnects supply voltage in the event of insulation failure. The design permits a single core to be used in conjunction with both IDMT and instantaneous trip curves. Rapid disconnection of the affected circuit from the supply network maintains system stability, as well as limiting damage by reducing the time that fault current is present.
Earth leakage relays with IDMT or instantaneous trip delay characteristics provide a means of trip grading between the main and feed circuit breakers at similar sensitivity levels. Stable operation is assured during the high inrush current conditions associated with motor starting or transformer transient conditions, as well as the fast switching transients generated by variable speed drives. This is achieved by using low pass active filters as well as screen winding on the CBCT. The relays are suitable for either 110 V a.c. or 220 V a.c. power supplies.
Housed in 146 x 88 x 63 mm panel-mounted enclosures, the relays give LED indication of healthy, tripped and selected trip curve characteristics, providing a functional user interface.
