Loadcell comes clean

The PR6202 Hygienic Load Cell from Sartorius has been designed for use in the food industry and in industrial sectors that place similarly high requirements on cleanability and reliability. It is the first loadcell of its kind to meet the strict EHEDG guidelines (European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group), and thus offers a genuine alternative to solutions available so far.

Unfortunately, technical solutions available to date offer optimal weighing functions, yet accessibility for cleaning has been a compromise at best. Sartorius recognised the need to overcome these shortcomings. The loadcell was designed in conjunction with leading users in the food industry to meet the standards and guidelines for hygienic design.

The device has been engineered primarily for use in tank and hopper scale instrumentation. These scales encompass all production, mixing, batching and storage containers both for liquid and pasty substances as well as for powder and granulate in large-scale production and processing of foods, beverages and tobacco.

During qualification the company drafted stringent in-house standards that exceeded conventional IEC and DIN standards. The device was leak tested for 10 000 hours at a depth of 1,5 m and subjected to vibration testing at 20 g for 100 hours.

Additional tests included 56 days of temperature cycling over a -40 to +95°C range and load testing involving two million load changes at full nominal capacity.
