Netherlands-based Smitsvonk, part of the Durag Group, specialises in ignition systems for industrial use in gas ignition burners, pilot flares, spark plugs and ignition lances. The systems are based on capacitive discharge for high energy electronic ignition under adverse operating conditions. Moisture, dirt, water and oil do not affect ignition performance.
Smitsvonk systems are used for a host of industrial combustion processes, ranging from small-scale applications such as the ignition of baking ovens to the ignition of burners in pulverised coal-fired power stations. However, the company’s main focus is the supply of continuous electric ignition systems for the oil and gas industries.
The company specialises in customised products based on components of its own design and has in-house production and test facilities. Mobile units are currently operational in well-test and production applications in the North Sea. On-shore, over 1000 electric pilots are in service for the ignition of elevated flares.
