The Pinetown-based company has been accredited as the only official Baumuller authorised repair centre in South Africa. The facility is staffed by five highly qualified technicians with extensive knowledge in troubleshooting and repairs. “The guys understand the consequences of downtime,” says Motion Tronic director Bradley Douglas. “If we are carrying out a repair on site we do not leave until we know the equipment is in top shape. It is not unusual to see people working late in the workshop either, I regularly see the lights still on till eight or nine o’clock. It is a passion around here.”
The company is able to carry out same day repairs if all parts are available and the average turnaround time is two days. Traditionally the company’s specialities were servo inverters and DC drives, but the offering is now being expanded to all types of industrial electronic equipment. “To cope with the expansion we installed a software solution for item tracking through the repair process,” explains Douglas. “Each job is monitored from the time it enters the door until repairs are complete. Faulty equipment is tagged with an EQID number which stays valid for life, so we can see if a repetitive fault is occurring and take corrective action.”
Douglas says that in future Motion Tronics will focus much more closely on the unique requirements of individual clients. “We believe in flexibility and adapt our services to cater for any situation,” he concludes.
