Vodacom embraces females in technology

March 2008 News

Vodacom’s annual Graduate Programme for Females in Technology (GPFT) has this year seen a record number of candidates, following on from the success of this programme in the last two years. The increase in candidates comes as Vodacom commits to invest more than R10 million in the 2008 graduates over their programme period of three years.

GPFT is a graduate development programme inspired by the achievements of great women in the business and telecommunications industry. This year, the 30 new female candidates, from across the country and who have all completed either a BSc or a BCom degree in Mathematics, Science, Engineering or IT, have the opportunity to work and obtain hands-on experience at Vodacom. At the same time they will be able to develop the necessary technical, engineering and business skills for their future career in the telecommunications industry. Of the first 20 candidates that were selected for the programme 18 are now permanently employed at Vodacom in its various technical divisions.

“Vodacom has acknowledged a shortage of women within the ICT sector and this programme has been designed by Vodacom to increase the number of women entering this sector. The success of the programme has seen the number of candidates increase from 10 to 30 candidates for the 2008-intake,” says Lungi Ndlovu, Vodacom Group, chief human resources officer.

GPFT provides a development opportunity for female graduates in the fields of technology, IT and engineering to join Vodacom’s exciting and ever-growing business.

The open date for the evaluation of applications for 2009 intake begins on 6 June 2008. To apply, please send a comprehensive CV to [email protected] by 29 August 2008.
