New timers provide extended functionality and easy set-up.

The newly introduced Rex time switches from Legrand are designed for use in domestic, commercial and industrial environments and come equipped with user-friendly programming facilities. "The timers ensure high levels of safety and performance coupled with pleasing aesthetic enhancements," says Timothy Mountjoy, national sales manager for Legrand SA. "The PolarRex range has been designed specifically for refrigeration applications and features a unique defrosting facility, while the MicroRex range is more general purpose."

The modules are 24 hour seven day time switches for DIN rail or wall mounting, with a 100 hour running reserve. Multiprogramming is provided for maximum flexibility and control is via a quartz or synchronous motor. For increased safety an automated or manual over-ride facility is provided. The devices are suited to OEMs, since pre-programming can be done at installation. On power up the end user simply has to enter the actual time and date.

The PolarRex analogue defrost switch is designed for short periods of controlled defrosting. This unit is equipped with a daily disc and continuously adjustable short time programmes, which can be repeated up to eight times in 24 hours. These units have changeover contacts for compressors or heaters and incorporate cycle termination capability.

The new FACE (familiarity achieved through common user interface elements) programming method is applicable to all products in the Rex range and is suitable for applications from time switches to video recorders. Programming is effected by sequential key pressing, which replaces the original menu-based PC instruction entry. The clear display layout ensures easy readability of time, date and program related information. Other features include EEPROM memory, which allows programming prior to dispatch and rail spring fixing clips for easy attachment.
