Penmac plans changes for 2008

January 2008 News

Many instrumentation users in the outlying areas rarely get an opportunity to visit the industrial showcases staged in major centres. The vast distances often prove too costly and time-consuming to provide operational personnel with the opportunity of viewing products from potential suppliers at the same venue. With this need in mind Penmac and the suppliers addressed the problem through the organisation of local roadshows and exhibitions. The aim was to provide a platform for instrumentation users in these areas to view and compare the latest product offerings. The shows are kept simple and the focus is on customer interaction rather than flashy presentation.

A major benefit is the database containing customer related information that is jointly owned by Penmac and the exhibitors. The value of the database is the information it contains on operational personnel who rarely travel to the major centres. While these technical people may not sign the cheques, they have a strong influence on the purchase of new technology.

The company believes it is now time to expand on the initial contact and plans to introduce a suite of tools aimed at maintaining the communication. The service offering in 2008 will be expanded to include virtual exhibitions and control roadshows that will complement the event coordination offering.

The virtual exhibitions will enable suppliers to exhibit their products at cyber venues on a rotational basis. The rota will give designated areas periodic coverage for one month every year, to prevent the concept from being perceived as junk mail. The idea of the controlled roadshow is for exhibitors to vote for exhibition venues in order to maximise visitor attendance and interaction.
