Rockwell Automation recently hosted a successful industrial automation open day at the Zwartkops Raceway. The event supports the biennial, Johannesburg based, RSTechED Africa conference. The open day occurs in alternate years to RSTechED Africa and forms part of a plan to take the conference mobile and to the people.
According to Sean Smith, managing director, Rockwell Automation South Africa, the open day is the ideal opportunity for clients to keep up-to-date with the latest trends and developments in the industry, in a hands-on environment.
The focus of the event was to showcase the newly launched FactoryTalk application and associated safety products. Product demonstrations included FactoryTalk Historian SE, FactoryTalk AssetCentre, Integrated Architecture, and drive systems.

The open day was attended by a host of customers from a cross-section of industries, including mining, metals, and food and beverage. Rockwell Automation's channel partners were also involved.
The safety focus of the demonstrations, displays and open discussions was underpinned by the Mercedes Benz Dynamic Driving event whereby customers were afforded the opportunity to accompany qualified racing drivers around the track in a Mercedes C55 AMG.
Following the success of the event, similar open days were held in Durban and Cape Town.
