Wonderware acquires Cimnet for MES technology

August 2007 News

On 2 July, Invensys announced completion of the acquisition of Cimnet, a manufacturing execution system (MES) software company based in Pennsylvania, USA. Wonderware intends to integrate Cimnet MES technology, using Invensys' ArchestrA industrial SOA, to expand its suite of MES software and solutions.

Existing Cimnet offerings will continue to be available and enhanced for customers under Wonderware's Factelligence and DNC Professional brands. The acquired MES technology offerings are also being integrated with Invensys' open industry standard-based ArchestrA.

Mike Bradley, Sr., president of the Wonderware business unit says, "By integrating the powerful production model and configurable application modules from Cimnet into the ArchestrA industrial services oriented architecture (SOA), we will deliver even more functionality to our customers."

"Wonderware Southern Africa has been active in the MES market for many years," says Justin Tweedie, MD of Wonderware Southern Africa. "This acquisition will allow us to offer a complete MES solution that uses the latest technology and standards. MES modules added in the future will benefit from today's investment in a solid manufacturing platform."

Alison Smith, senior research analyst from AMR Research comments, "What Invensys gets out of the deal - in addition to proven capability - is an opportunity to drive software application revenues using its existing global network of Wonderware distributors and systems integrators. This is precisely the business model that transformed Wonderware from a start-up HMI provider into the single largest manufacturing operations software provider on the planet back in the mid-nineties."
