Radiometric transmitter tolerates extremes

June 2007 Maintenance, Test & Measurement, Calibration

Endress+Hauser recently launched the Gammapilot M FMG60, a compact transmitter using the radiometric principle to provide non-contact measurement and suitable for non-invasive limit detection, level, interface layer, and density measurement.

Radiometric instrumentation is employed in many measuring applications in which other methods are not suitable due to extreme or critical conditions. Such conditions include toxicity, abrasion, high temperatures and high pressures in industries like chemical and petrochemical, mining pulp and paper and power generation.

The new model, an addition to the existing Gammapilot range, is the result of ongoing development and offers all of the advantages of the tried and tested measurement method combined with the latest technology.

Gammapilot M FMG60 was developed in accordance with the IEC61508 international standard for functional safety and has SIL2 (Safety Integrity Level) approval for overspill protections. This makes the device ideal for use in safety related processes. The instrument also offers automatic monitoring from the sensor to the power output and issues a warning when components have to be exchanged.

"The well designed safety concept of Gammapilot M guarantees uninterrupted operation and thus a high degree of plant availability," says Hennie Blignaut, marketing manager at Endress+Hauser.

Gammapilot M has the standardised communication protocols of Hart, Profibus PA and Foundation Fieldbus at its disposal. Actual operation and commissioning is effected via the ToF-Tool operating software or via the separate FHX40 operating unit. All measuring tasks are configured via this software.
