The use of the calorimetric flow principle is now a standard in the industry. Significant advances over the past decade have enabled the calorimetric sensor to assume an active, respected role in flow switching as well as metering of both liquids and gaseous mediums.
The most common use of these sensors is in 'flow'/'no-flow' applications for detecting the movement of air or liquids. Popular for their solid state construction with no moving parts, the calorimetric flow sensor is impervious to particulate matter that spells doom for mechanical type devices.
The stainless steel calorimetric flow sensor, distributed by RS Components, provides maximum and minimum flow rate data for use with 'flow'/'no-flow' sensing applications. Its flow setting ranges between 20 to 50 cm/s and it is programmed using a rotating programming ring which is removable for security.
Some of other features of the calorimetric flow sensor include:
* Continual display (LCD; LED red) of flow rate as a percentage of maximum.
* Power.
* Protection to IP67.
* Maximum 2 s response time.
* 1% repeat accuracy.
* Switching outputs: PNP, NPN - 300 mA maximum.
* Five-pole, M12 plug connector.
* Supply voltage: 18 to 30 V d.c.
* One analog and two digital outputs.
* Minimum or maximum switching points with adjustable hysteresis.
