SAPICS awards recognise excellence
May 2007
News
Outstanding students and educators were recently recognised at South Africa's first Supply Chain Management Education Excellence Awards, hosted by the Federation for Supply Chain Management Associations (FSCMA), and SAPICS (The Association for Operations Management of Southern Africa).
The brainchild of former SAPICS president, Tracy Cheetham, the awards are aimed at recognising and rewarding excellence in supply chain management education and raising awareness of efforts to develop the industry's people capabilities, comments SAPICS director Cobus Rossouw.
"South Africa's skills deficit is widely recognised as one of the biggest factors hampering economic growth. High quality education can benefit the country and its industries. In the supply chain field, it is improving our ability to leverage supply chain management-related business improvement," Rossouw asserts.
Top achievers included:
* Johannes Maluleke (De Beers) - CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management) Top Student Award 2006.
* Ivor Goosen (Dynamic Fluid Control) - CPIM Top Score 2006.
* Winton Myers (Viewpoint Training and Consulting) - CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional) Student of the Year Award 2006.
* Terry O'Donohue (Toyota SA Motors) - CSCP Student of the Year Award 2006.
* Kapambwe Mulombwa (College of Business and Maritime Studies) - SAPICS Student of the Year Award 2006.
