ASM offers a new angle on position sensing

April 2007 Sensors & Transducers

ASM has just announced the release of two new angular position sensors: the PRAS1 and PRAS2.

Both models belong to the successful Posirot family of magnetic angular sensors and their industrial housings are rated IP68. They incorporate an external permanent magnet to measure complete angular position from 0° to 360° with a typical resolution of 0,1°. This construction achieves contact-free and wear-free angular measurement. Three different analog outputs are available: 4-20 mA, 0,5–4,5 V and 0,5-10 V.

The new PRAS1 magnetic angle sensor is mounted in a compact M12 housing. With only a 13 mm diameter and an overall length of approximately 50 mm, this small sensor saves space and can be installed in the tightest locations. Its dependable and rugged design makes the PRAS1 angle sensor well-suited for angle monitoring in a wide variety of heavy duty applications such as factory automation equipment, variable valve controls and mobile working machines.

The new PRAS2 is a magnetic angle sensor in a 20 mm x 36 mm diameter servo flange housing. The angle measurement circuitry is shielded from external environment interference and has been designed to be highly shock- and vibration-resistant. With its low height, this new compact model can be quickly installed without requiring much space. Since this sensor is in a rugged IP 68 stainless steel housing, it can reliably handle the toughest industrial environments and makes it suitable for many applications such as steering and tilt angle measurement on mobile construction equipment.
