Citect to play a key role in the world's first Environmental Business Cluster

March 2007 News

Citect, a division of Schneider Electric, was present at their signing of a Statement of Intent with Delfin Lend Lease for a major development project at Yarrabilba in SE Queensland. The event held in London, UK was attended by Queensland premier and minister for Trade, Peter Beattie, and saw the two companies cement a relationship, which would see both Schneider Electric and Citect take leading roles in the development of this environmental initiative.

Yarrabilba, in south-east Queensland, is being developed by Delfin Lend Lease, Australia's largest developer of master planned communities, to be a world benchmark in sustainable urban development.

It will be the location for the world's first Environmental Business Cluster that will serve as a hub for environmental businesses in Australia and encourage world-class research and development. To be developed over a 30-year period, the Yarrabilba 2014 hectare project, will be home to approximately 52 000 people in an estimated 23 000 homes.

As a Strategic Alliance Partner, Schneider Electric's scope includes Citect providing an in-home monitoring system for the estimated 23 000 homes, over the life of the project. By monitoring energy and water usage in realtime, this intelligent technology can assist residents in the reduction of their household consumption. Innovative delivery of energy supply, broadband services through electrical power lines and electrical distribution equipment are other product and service solutions that will be provided by divisions within the Schneider Electric Group.

Lend Lease Communities regional general manager Queensland, Andrew Brimblecombe, said: "We are excited to have such major national and international players as the founding strategic alliance partners for the Environmental Business Cluster. Having companies such as Citect and Schneider Electric will ensure the Cluster is a precinct for world-leading research, manufacturing and services."

Citect's CEO, John Ross, says that Citect has been working with Delfin Lend Lease since the project's inception. "Citect applauds Delfin Lend Lease's world-leading vision in the Yarrabilba development and is delighted that our technology was chosen to contribute to the establishment of the world's first Environmental Business Cluster," adds Ross.

Schneider Electric vice president - Electrical Management Jean-Louis Stasi, commented, "This is a very exciting opportunity for Schneider Electric and Citect to provide a total solution. We are extremely pleased to be part of this innovative project that will focus on sustainability and wise energy and water usage."
