Elpro telemetry proven in African conditions

Since the introduction of the Australian wireless products from Elpro Technologies to South Africa, a number of systems have found their way into projects in Africa. In most cases the product is used in mining applications for above-ground control and supervisory applications.
"The reason for the broad acceptance of the product is its ease of use," says Willem Krige, UniTemp's product manager. "Every module is supplied with full setup software and diagnostics, through which the client himself configures and updates the modules."
This applies not only to the popular radio telemetry products from Elpro, but also to all the newly released wireless gateways that are used to set up a wireless instrumentation backbone on a site. This allows the seamless linking of different PLCs, scada and discreet I/O without the worry of protocol conversion. Elpro supports Ethernet, Modbus RTU and TCP, Devicenet as well as Profibus Master and Slave.
Wireless modems for data communication between LAN, WAN and intelligent devices now complete Elpro's product range. Devices are available from 400 MHz to 2,4 GHz.
It is now very simple to link stations on Ethernet and serial RS232 or 485 simultaneously. This allows a PLC connected wirelessly into Ethernet networks while at the same time facilitating remote programming through the serial connections via radio. These facilities will save a lot of travelling and enable the engineers to remotely troubleshoot and program without having to get into restricted areas as is the case on diamond, gold and platinum mines.
Remote surveillance cameras requiring large bandwidth for image transfer can now be connected in the system.
Acceptance in remote areas has been due to the fact that Elpro Technologies products are designed for harsh conditions, are easy to set up and to expand in the field. Besides technical support by UniTemp in South Africa the clients have access to 24 hour support centres in different timezones (Europe, the USA and Australia) ensuring that assistance is available at all times.
