PLC programming software

January 2001 PLCs, DCSs & Controllers

ProWorx NxT programming software is a Windows-based Modsoft solution for Modicon Micro/Compact/Quantum/Momentum/584/984 useful to any organisation with any of a range of different Modicon PLCs in its operation - 984s, 584s, TSX Quantum, TSX Momentum, etc.

The ProWORX NxT is new programming software, a Windows-based version of the successful Modsoft software, which operates as a simple programming platform for all these Modicon PLCs.

This leading edge software gives users the ability to program all their Modicon controllers, online or offline, manage I/O subsystems and analyse the plant's activity in realtime, in a familiar Windows environment.

It is the only programming software for Modicon PLCs, being compatible with the Modicon Micro, Compact, 584, 984, TSX Quantum and TSX Momentum PLCs.

The common programming environment it provides is intended to simplify and speed up system development and reduce commissioning time.

Development time is reduced by using the same commands and instructions for every controller. Simply cut, copy and paste networks from one platform to any other.

Realtime network status

Finding the necessary controller is fast and network diagnostics is simple with the powerful Network Scan feature. This searches Modbus or Modbus Plus networks, then identifies and graphically displays each device found and shows its status.

Advanced I/O management

To ensure that the I/O card being configured in the software matches the one on the plant floor, the graphical Traffic Cop displays I/O cards on your screen - the same way they look in real life, eliminating all confusion. To place a card, just select it from the convenient drop down menu and then drag it into the required controller slot. To save even more time, the Traffic Cop automatically associates the card's I/O points with a block of free addresses in the controller.

Once configured, I/O can be managed with the complete documentation tools, with references for each head, drop, rack, slot and address. And the Traffic Cop's graphical display shows the user at a glance whether the I/O is healthy.

The intuitive register editor is a powerful analysis tool, the Data Watch Window shows information from the plant in realtime, or logs it to disk for in-depth historical analysis later on. Data needed to make informed, effective production decisions is easily available. Viewing and editing data in full page display, seeing trends and tracking data points against time in a spreadsheet, and monitoring any combinations of discretes and analogs is all there.

The Drawing Generator automatically creates wiring diagrams for the I/O cards defined in the Traffic Cop. The drawings may be generated all at once, or just one card at a time - by simply selecting an address the I/O card uses with the Network Editor, then clicking the drawing button on the Hardware-Back Referencing Panel. NxT displays the diagram, and if required, saves it as an AUTOCAD-compatible .DXF file or prints it.

Windows environment

The familiar Windows-based programming environment means users spend less time learning how to do things, and more time being productive.
